Scientists Amazed As 50,000-Year-Old Crater Lake Turns From Green To Pink

A lake in India has left scientists puzzled after strangely changing color turning from green to pink.

Set in a meteorite crater in Maharashtra State, Lonar Lake is assumed to be at least around 50,000 years old.

Unbelievable ‘before and after’ photos show the enormous difference between the two pigments:

While further studies take place, it’s unknown exactly what triggered the lake to change color so intensely. Experts reckon it could be down the salinity levels changing and the existence of specific algae, which could be accountable for the change.

Local reports suggest a parallel color change took place around 2,000 years ago, however it’s believed the change wasn’t quite so vivid, and unlikely to have gathered as much attention as this time around.
